The short answer: Hunter is the oldest name in American ceiling fans. It was founded in 1886 in Syracuse, New York, is now based in Memphis and has been owned by Griffon Corp. since 2022. Our pick for most rooms is the Gravity 60, an ENERGY STAR Most Efficient DC smart fan. For a light and remote on a budget, get the Dempsey Low Profile 52. The Aerodyne 52 is the cheapest smart DC model, the Low Profile IV 42 suits very low ceilings, and the Embrook 52 is a bedroom fan. For big rooms there’s the Gravity 72, for open patios the Skysail 60, for bright kitchen light the Zavia 60, and for the classic look the Outdoor Original.
The range runs from about $100 pull-chain fans to cast-iron classics at $750 and up. For how Hunter stacks up against other makers, see our best ceiling fan brands comparison.
How we chose
We don’t test fans ourselves. These picks come from Hunter’s product pages, spec sheets, EnergyGuide labels and manuals, plus ENERGY STAR data, checked in October 2026. We looked for:
- One strong fan per job, from low ceilings to wet-rated patios.
- Efficiency. DC motors and ENERGY STAR certification, especially the Most Efficient list.
- Controls in the box. A remote, wall control or HunterSMART Wi-Fi.
- Clear warranty terms in the manual, not just on the product page.
Note: The airflow (CFM) figures below are Hunter’s published numbers, mostly from the EnergyGuide label. High-speed watts come from ENERGY STAR where the fan is certified. The two don’t always use the same test basis, so treat small differences loosely.
The best Hunter ceiling fans
Hunter Gravity 60 in.
Best for: living rooms and big bedrooms where you want smart control.
The Gravity is on ENERGY STAR’s Most Efficient list at 311.7 CFM per watt. It moves 6,468 CFM and draws 20 W on high and just 1.7 W on low, with a 6-speed DC motor. You get a handheld remote, HunterSMART Wi-Fi (Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit) and a dimmable 3000K LED module that Hunter rates at 2,000 lumens (ENERGY STAR’s test record shows 1,593). A 3-inch downrod is included, and it works on angled ceilings.
- Trade-off: around $500. And the product page has a “3 Year Motor Warranty” bullet that contradicts its own lifetime badge. The printed manual says limited lifetime on the motor, which we treat as the real term.
Check the Hunter Gravity 60 on Amazon
Hunter Dempsey Low Profile 52 in.
Best for: bedrooms and family rooms with ceilings under 9 feet, if you want a light and a remote without smart features.
The Dempsey topped hunterfan.com’s best-selling sort in October 2026. It’s a flush-mount fan with a 3-speed AC WhisperWind motor and two dimmable E26 LED bulbs (800 lumens each, 3000K). The remote handles speed and dimming. Hunter’s spec sheet puts the blades 8.08 inches below the ceiling. It’s also sold in 44- and 60-inch sizes, and buyers on hunterfan.com rate it 4 out of 5 from 120 reviews.
- Trade-off: efficiency. The EnergyGuide label lists 2,854 CFM for 39 W, and it isn’t ENERGY STAR certified. Expect around $270.

Hunter Aerodyne 52 in. DC
Best for: the lowest price into HunterSMART.
The 2026 Aerodyne (models 52571 to 52574) is a 4-speed DC fan with a dimmable integrated light, a remote with a pre-installed receiver and HunterSMART Wi-Fi. ENERGY STAR lists it at 263 CFM per watt, 22.2 W on high and 2.2 W on low. The EnergyGuide label gives 3,867 CFM. A 3-inch downrod is included, and it fits angled ceilings. Its manual is also the best Hunter warranty we read (see below).
- Trade-off: Hunter doesn’t publish the light’s lumens or color temperature. At around $280 it’s a smart fan, but a smaller-airflow one than the Gravity.
We couldn’t find an Amazon listing for the 2026 model numbers, only older Aerodyne fans with different specs, so check the model number or buy from hunterfan.com.
Search Amazon for the Hunter Aerodyne 52
Hunter Low Profile IV 42 in.
Best for: small bedrooms, hallways and kids’ rooms with low ceilings.
This is the shortest Hunter in our research: 8.8 inches from ceiling to the bottom of the fan and 7.53 inches to the blades, per Hunter’s dimension diagram. It’s a simple 3-speed AC flush-mount fan with pull chains and no light, rated at 2,926 CFM and 29 W. It costs about $100 to $120 depending on finish and has a limited lifetime motor warranty.
- Trade-off: no remote, no light and no smart control. We’d pick it for a small room where clearance matters more than features. Our low profile ceiling fans guide has more options.

Hunter Embrook 52 in.
Best for: bedrooms, on a budget.
The Embrook is a 6-speed DC fan for under $200 on hunterfan.com. It’s on ENERGY STAR’s Most Efficient list at 312.3 CFM per watt, moving 4,966 CFM at 17.1 W on high and drawing 1.7 W on low. It comes with a remote and a 3.5-inch downrod and has no light, which some people prefer over a bed.
- Trade-off: no smart control and no published noise data. In our view it’s still the most sensible Hunter for sleeping, because a slow DC fan moves less noisy air. See our quietest ceiling fans roundup for more.

Hunter Gravity 72 in.
Best for: great rooms, open-plan living areas and rooms over 400 sq ft.
The big Gravity has the same 6-speed DC motor, HunterSMART Wi-Fi, remote and 2,000-lumen dimmable LED as the 60-inch. Hunter’s EnergyGuide label lists 10,242 CFM and 18 W energy use. ENERGY STAR certifies it under the 60-inch Gravity’s record, so there’s no size-specific high-speed wattage. A 3-inch downrod is included, and it costs around $600.
- Trade-off: we read only the 60-inch manual, so check the 72-inch manual’s warranty page before you buy.
Alternative: the Downtown 72 (around $550) is a fan-only, 7-blade DC fan that’s damp-rated for covered patios as well as great rooms. Its EnergyGuide airflow is 11,694 CFM, and ENERGY STAR lists 55.4 W on high. It comes with a wall control.

Hunter Skysail 60 in.
Best for: open patios, pergolas and spots that get rained on.
The Skysail is wet-rated and ENERGY STAR certified, with a 6-speed DC motor, a wall control and an 800-lumen LED bulb. Hunter rates it at 7,167 CFM, and ENERGY STAR lists 28.9 W on high. It’s part of Hunter’s WeatherMax line, which Hunter tags “Wet + Salt-Resistant” and backs with a 3-year finish warranty. A 3-inch downrod is included, and the mount works on angled ceilings or in a low-profile position. Expect around $500.
- Trade-off: the figures don’t agree everywhere. Hunter’s own spec table shows 16 W total energy use, and some Amazon pages list a different airflow.
Alternative: the Seawall 52 (around $480) is also wet-rated WeatherMax, with a 3-speed AC motor, five blades, two 800-lumen bulbs and a wall control. It’s rated at 4,815 CFM and 46 W, so it’s less efficient. Our outdoor ceiling fans guide explains damp vs wet ratings.
Check the Hunter Skysail on Amazon
Hunter Zavia 60 in.
Best for: kitchens and rooms where you want a really bright light.
The Zavia’s dimmable 3000K LED module is rated at 2,500 lumens, the brightest integrated light in our Hunter research. It’s a 6-speed DC fan with a remote and HunterSMART Wi-Fi. ENERGY STAR lists 291.9 CFM per watt, 25.5 W on high and 2.2 W on low, and Hunter rates it at 7,168 CFM. It comes with a 4-inch downrod, fits angled ceilings and costs around $300.
- Trade-off: it’s dry-rated, and we found no Amazon listing for it. Buy it from hunterfan.com or another authorized seller.
Alternative: the ZenTech 52 (around $400) is damp-rated, with a 2,000-lumen light you can tune from 3000K to 5000K and HunterSMART control. Its Amazon listing showed as unavailable when we checked.
Search Amazon for the Hunter Zavia 60
Hunter Outdoor Original 52 in.
Best for: a classic look on a covered porch.
The Original has a cast-iron housing and an oil-bath motor. Hunter says the cast iron reduces wobble and draws heat away from the motor, and that the design dates back to the turn of the 20th century. In October 2026, Hunter’s Original collection listed only damp-rated outdoor versions. This 3-speed AC fan has pull chains and no light, and its EnergyGuide label lists 4,710 CFM at 54 W.
- Trade-off: around $750, inefficient next to the DC fans above, and heavy. It’s for covered porches only, not open to rain. We’d buy it for the look, not the specs.

Not sure which size you need? Hunter’s guide suggests 30 to 48 inches for rooms up to 100 sq ft, 50 to 54 inches up to 400 sq ft and 56 inches or more above that. Blades should be at least 7 feet from the floor (8 is ideal) and 30 inches from walls. Our ceiling fan size calculator does the math for your room.
Hunter’s warranty, explained
The details depend on the model and the year of its manual.
- Motor: limited lifetime. Hunter’s support article says it provides a replacement fan if the motor fails from a defect while you own it.
- Other parts: 1 year or 3 years. Hunter’s standard terms (support article and the Gravity manual 4074-01) give one year. The 2026 Aerodyne manual (4259-01) gives a three-year limited warranty on other parts.
- Remotes and receivers: one year under the standard terms, per Hunter. The Aerodyne manual includes them in its three-year “other” term.
- LED light kits: three years, per the support article and the Gravity manual.
- Registration: the Aerodyne manual says to scan a QR code and register your fan “to activate your free limited lifetime warranty”.
The fine print, per Hunter’s support article: original buyer only, proof of purchase required, authorized dealers only, US and Canada only, and no labor. Refurbished fans are excluded too.
Important: Whichever fan you buy, turn off power at the breaker before installing, hang it from a fan-rated box or the building structure, follow the manual and local code, and hire a licensed electrician if you’re unsure. Heavy fans like the Original need solid structural mounting.
HunterSMART: what it does and doesn’t do
HunterSMART is Hunter’s Wi-Fi platform, formerly called SIMPLEconnect. Hunter says only the name changed and existing fans keep working. HunterSMART fans connect over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with no hub and work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit.
- App rating: the HunterSMART (SIMPLEconnect) iOS app averaged 3.6 out of 5 from 4,278 ratings on October 28, 2026, and App Store reviews include complaints about connection drops.
- Matter: confirmed only for Hunter’s 2026 HunterSMART accessories (a plug, dimmer, wall panel and the Smart Fan Upgrade Kit), not for the fans themselves.
- Upgrade kit: the kit (model 99981, about $90) adds smart control to many AC fans, but it doesn’t work with DC fans.
- ENERGY STAR’s “connected” flag: ignore it. It says No for the Aerodyne and Zavia even though both are HunterSMART Wi-Fi fans.
If smart control is the main reason you’re shopping, our best smart ceiling fans guide compares Hunter with other platforms.
Hunter’s fan technology in plain words
- DC vs AC. In this list, Hunter’s DC fans have 4 to 6 speeds and are the efficient ones; the AC fans have 3 speeds. Our AC vs DC ceiling fans guide covers the trade-offs.
- SureSpeed. Hunter says SureSpeed fans pair an optimized motor with precision blades and produce “over 33% more air velocity than leading competitors”. That figure comes from Hunter’s own testing in January 2023 against unnamed competitors. It isn’t independently verified.
- WhisperWind. It’s a marketing name for Hunter’s motors, used on AC fans like the Dempsey and on DC fans too. Some DC pages say “EcoWhisper” instead. Hunter publishes no decibel figures for either.
- WeatherMax. This is Hunter’s wet-rated outdoor line, which Hunter says resists corrosion from water and salt air, with a 3-year finish warranty.
Where to buy Hunter ceiling fans
- hunterfan.com: the full range, with free shipping on orders of $199 and up.
- Home Depot, Costco and Walmart: all sell Hunter fans, though the models vary by store.
- Amazon: many Hunter listings carry a “Visit the Hunter Store” byline, but there are also plenty of “Renewed” Hunter fans.
Tip: Hunter’s warranty excludes refurbished fans and fans from unauthorized sellers. On Amazon or any marketplace, buy new and check that the seller is Hunter or an authorized dealer.

Frequently asked questions
Are Hunter ceiling fans good?
For most homes, yes. Hunter sells everything from about $100 AC fans to ENERGY STAR Most Efficient DC smart fans, backs the motor with a limited lifetime warranty and is sold almost everywhere. Quality and efficiency vary by model, so compare the EnergyGuide label and warranty for the exact fan.
What is the warranty on a Hunter ceiling fan?
The motor has a limited lifetime warranty for the original buyer. Other parts get one year on older terms and three years in the 2026 Aerodyne manual, and LED light kits get three years. You need proof of purchase from an authorized dealer, and labor isn't covered.
Who owns Hunter Fan Company?
Griffon Corp. has owned Hunter since January 2022. Hunter was founded in 1886 in Syracuse, New York, and is based in Memphis, Tennessee.
Do Hunter ceiling fans work with Alexa and Apple Home?
HunterSMART Wi-Fi fans work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with no hub. Matter is confirmed only for Hunter's 2026 smart accessories, not for the fans themselves.
Is a Hunter fan from Amazon covered by the warranty?
Only if it's new and sold by Hunter or an authorized dealer. Hunter's warranty excludes refurbished fans and fans bought from unauthorized sellers, and Amazon carries many 'Renewed' Hunter fans, so check the seller before you buy.
What is the quietest Hunter ceiling fan?
Hunter doesn't publish decibel figures, so there's no measured answer. A DC fan with many speeds and low power on low, like the Embrook (1.7 W on low), is the safest bet for a bedroom.
