About Cool Ceiling Ideas
Independent, research-based guides to choosing, using and fixing ceiling fans.
Cool Ceiling Ideas is an independent website about ceiling fans. Buying one sounds simple until you face the choices: which size for the room, AC or DC motor, how far it should hang, whether it needs to be damp- or wet-rated, and which brands stand behind their fans when a remote or a motor fails. We explain what actually matters, in plain English, and point you to the facts behind every recommendation.
The site covers four things:
- Ceiling fan types and styles: low-profile fans for low ceilings, smart fans, outdoor fans and more.
- Buying guides: the right size for your room, AC vs DC motors and the best ceiling fan brands.
- Room ideas: quiet fans for bedrooms, nurseries and bunk beds.
- How-to guides: from which way your fan should spin to fixing a wobble.
How we choose what to recommend
We are a small editorial team and we don’t run a testing lab. Our recommendations are research-based: we compare manufacturers’ published specifications and warranty terms with independent sources such as ENERGY STAR, the US Department of Energy, UL ratings, Consumer Reports’ lab results and CPSC recall notices. We say so plainly when something can’t be verified.
